HAPPY SECOND DAY OF SUMMER AND HAPPY ALMOST 4th OF JULY! I don’t know about you, but even though this year is literally flying by, I’m so, so stoked that it’s summertime and that the 4th of July is around the corner. It’s probably my 3rd favorite holiday of the year (Christmas being number one and Thanksgiving being number two, obviously.) Growing up, we would spend the 4th having big BBQ’s at my grandparents’ house, swim in their pool, and go watch the fireworks all together as a family. I have nothing but fond memories of the 4th and it’s been really fun to create memories and traditions with Dustin in our marriage!
I’m sooo excited about this post because I teamed up with one of my best girlfriends, Karli, from Everyday Ellis to bring you SIX modest 4th of July outfit ideas. Karli and I both know that summertime fashion can be frustrating for girls who want to stick to their modesty standards. I remember skipping out on any major summer party my Sophomore year of high school because I felt like I didn’t have anything cute to wear that wasn’t frumpy. I’m really glad that there are more modest options out there for those of us who want to dress that way (no shame to those who want to dress differently, I’m just not comfortable with shorts past a certain length!) Make sure you check out Karli’s post to get all the details for her looks here!
Keep it Sweet – Swing Dress & Wedges
I know, I’ve already shared this dress like 3 million times, but I can’t help it – it’s one of my favorite things I’ve bought for this summer. Plus, I’m a real girl with a real closet and budget and I plan on wearing the same things more than once, so don’t be surprised if you see this a few more times this summer.
I got this dress from DownEast Basics (which is one of my favorite places to find on-trend modest pieces) and it’s SO comfortable. The swing cut is flattering on every body type and it’s really easy to move around in. I love the ruffle sleeves with the black stripes detail – it’s the perfect way to take this from a basic dress to a fun trendy dress. However, I WOULD recommend that you let this air dry and not dry in the dryer because this shrunk a little on me in length (wearing a size Medium here.) I think I’ll be able to stretch it out again, but just something to be aware of.
Since this dress was a neutral color, it was the perfect backdrop to accent with Patriotic pops of color (RED!) I wore my favorite Dansko red wedges, which are super comfortable and perfect for those with bad knees. (See them styled two more ways here!) I also loved bringing the pop of red up to my face with my earrings (Sugarfix by Baubblebar at Target for 6 bucks) and Lipstick (wearing Covergirl’s Katy Kat Gloss in Wine Feline.) Adding these pops of red makes this outfit super 4th of July appropriate without being TOO in your face, ya know?

Keep it Simple – Tee and Shorts
We spend the night before 4th of July at the Rodeo my city throws and it’s always HOT and FUN! I always want to look Patriotic but also want to stay cool as possible. That’s why I love love loved putting this simple outfit together – dark wash Bermuda shorts and a light red v-neck that can be knotted in front for a little extra fun! I also snagged this light blue/periwinkle Pumas from Burlington for 30 BUCKS and I love how they keep this outfit casual and comfortable while still looking stylish.
I LOVE these Slim Bermuda shorts from Old Navy – they are a great length and super stretchy, so if you are in between sizes, I recommend sizing down. I got a size 8 but I should have gotten a size 6 for sure. They are currently ON SALE for 16 dollars, and I just ordered another pair because they are that good.
My red tee is from Walmart’s new Time and Tru line (of which I have been very impressed with and have a whole try on dedicated to some of their new clothes saved on my Instagram Story Highlights.) This tee is super lightweight and is really easy to knot with. It’s under 10 bucks and I am also going back to get a couple more because they are so great for the summer heat.

Keep it Sassy – White Denim and Tie-Die
This WHOLE look is Old Navy and I’m not even sorry about it because one – if you aren’t wearing Old Navy for the 4th of July, are you American? And two -the prices are so so good. These white jeans are 100% my favorite kind of jeans because they are actually jeggings and have an ELASTIC WAISTBAND so they are SO comfortable and also, give you some extra tummy control in after you eat way too many 4th of July treats. I have these Jeggings in White, Black, AND Denim and they are almost all I wear. They are THAT GOOD!
Also, I secretly love that tie-dye is coming back a little bit because it’s ALL I wore during the summer when I was in high school. I like this swing tank because it’s SO comfortable and loose, so you get a nice little breeze with all the heat. And can we TALK ABOUT THE DENIM JACKET? Cause I somehow got it for 18 dollars at Old Navy and it has the cutest embroidery details and a raw edge that gives it a little bit of edginess. It layers well with so many things during the summer (I wore it with a maxi dress here and was OBSESSED) so I highly recommend looking into snagging one. It is still available for under 30.00 at Old Navy!
