September Chapter Chats + Link Up
Well, as usual, I didn’t get as much reading done last month as I wanted to, but on the flip side, I did read some winners, so at least I have that going for me!
Winners
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray ★★★ – 3.5 Stars – Gemma witnesses her mother’s murder, which happens in supernatural circumstances. She is sent to a finishing school called Spence in Britain where she continues to experience supernatural visions and uncovers secrets about her mother’s past and her future. This was a good read and different from what I normally read (this had a gothic feel to it) but it was pretty fast paced and had some good plot twists. I had to take my time reading it, though, because it would creep me out sometimes and I would have a hard time sleeping.
My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick ★★★★ – 4 Stars – Samantha grew up next door to a family the complete opposite of hers; complete, full of laughter, kidness and love. Her mother looked down upon them and so Samantha never really got to interact with them until one of their sons starts talking to her. Soon they are spending time together and falling in love, while Samantha learns to stand up for herself and take control of her life. I read this in a day at my family’s beach house and it was the perfect beach read. Light, fluffy, but surprisingly fresh. I mean, it was a pretty cliche story line, but I liked that there was no teenage angst between the main characters and that the story captivated me.
The Blender Girls Smoothies – ★★★★ – 4 Stars – I received this book from Blogging for Books and was super excited to get it! I’ve been wanting to make more smoothies to incorporate more fruits and veggies in my life. I love Naked Juice’s Green Machine, but they are expensive! This little cookbook has hundreds of Smoothie recipes that are all fairly simple and doable! I tried several of them and found that most of them were tasty (although I had to add a little sugar to each of them to sweeten them up). I loved the desert smoothies, too! I think this is a great little cookbook for smoothies and would recommend it to anyone who wants to find easy and simple ways to get more fruits and veggies into their life!
Ashley and I would love it if you linked up your favorite book posts so we can find new books to read this month! Here are the rules for the link up!
