Stretch your Closet: 3 Ways to Wear a Sherpa Vest
You all know that it’s been a journey, but I am finally at the point where I’m (mostly) at peace with buying clothes for myself because I’m confident enough in my skin and body to want to dress it up. However, like I’ve maintained before, I don’t have all the money in the world to buy something new every day. That’s why it’s super important to me to style things as realistically as I can on my blog – because I can’t be the only girl who wants to get the most out of my closet, right? I’m so excited to bring back my unnamed (but now named) series where I style a staple piece in my closet three different ways to hopefully give a little inspiration to those looking to stretch their closet! First up in the new year? SHERPA!
Anyone else on the Sherpa train this winter season? I’ll be honest, I wasn’t 100% on board, at first. The sherpa pullovers that everyone else seemed to be obsessed with just weren’t my style, although they did seem cozy. And then, I found this sherpa vest and decided to give the sherpa trend a go, because vests? I can do vests allllllll day long.
If you follow me on Instagram/watch my Instagram stories (my favorite place to hang out these days) you’ll know that I’ve been wearing this sherpa vest A LOT. I mean, I pretty much wear it every other day. It is SO soft and SO cozy and gives me that extra warmth that I need in my office without making me too hot. Plus, it’s super versatile and goes with so many different outfits. Also, the one I’m wearing is on sale right now. It’s still a little bit of a splurge with the sale, but I wear it so much that it’s been worth it for me. The sizing on it is a bit weird but I’m wearing a medium and am normally between an 8-10 in my dresses.
If you want one a bit more budget-friendly, try this one from Amazon!
3 Ways to Wear a Sherpa Vest:
Wear Sherpa to Work:
I wear this outfit to work almost once a week and I’m not ashamed of being an outfit repeater at all. I work in a business casual dress-code environment, but we’re allowed to wear black jeans and skinny dress pants. I paired my vest with a flowy dark green tunic that’s long and feels a bit more professional and formal. (I got this one at Down East Basics and can’t find it online! If you have a chance to pop your head into one, do it! This is the softest (and most flattering) top ever.) I also wanted to make sure I accessorized with classy pieces for work – so I choose my black pendant and black Sole Society tote! Of course, I’m always looking to add a little bit of spunk to my work outfits – hence the colorful socks peeping over my booties!

Sherpa Vest for Outdoors
Need a little extra warmth for an outdoor adventure? I have loved pairing my sherpa vest with hoodies – especially my favorite one from Aerie that I’ve literally been wearing on repeat for months now (also on sale right now.) The sweatshirt is warm and the Sherpa gives my core an added layer of insulation!
I live in Utah (and we’ve since received a foot of snow since these photos were taken) so the boots are a must for an outdoor’s outfit. Dustin spoiled me with these Sorels for Christmas and I am SO grateful that he did. I use to never be okay with spending that kind of money on shoes, but I’m learning that the more supportive my footwear is, the less my knee and hip pain is! Also, these Sorels are rated for -32 degrees! NEGATIVE 32 DEGREES! I don’t ever plan on being outside in that kind of weather, but even in the 20-degree weather, my feet have stayed SO warm. These boots are definitely worth the money if you live in a snowy/cold place and if you want to feel EXTRA stable walking in the snow.

Sherpa Vest for the Weekend
I think this is my favorite way to wear this sherpa vest – it’s super comfy and cozy but I still felt really put together. This combo could work in any type of weekend setting – from going out to lunch with girlfriends to dinner and a movie!
I started with a cowlneck sweatshirt that I’ve had for SO long – I’m not even sure where I got it from, but I love it. I can’t wear distressed denim at work, so the weekend is the only time I can really rock my hole-y jeans. I LOVE this pair I got from American Eagle during Black Friday because all the holes are reinforced and patched up, AKA, perfect for winter.
My Roxy combat boots were a clearance snag from DSW shoes. I went in one day with my sister, not intending to buy anything, and then I saw these and had just gotten paid and you know sisters….they convince you to buy everything. I don’t regret getting these combat boots, though. I had been wanting a pair for a couple years now and I love the color and detailing on these. Plus, they are super structured and supportive, so they are great for the knee replacement.
