Thoughts on Leggings and Two ways to wear them this Fall

Oh leggings season. The best time of the year. The leaves are turning, the weather is getting cool and I can wear leggings on repeat without needing a reason why. Before I jump into these two different style ideas I wanted to share today, I first want to take a few minutes to express my point of view on leggings, because I know that there is a lot of controversy surrounding them and how they should be worn.
Here’s my take on it all: I love leggings. They are comfortable and cozy. I love the way I can layer with them during the fall in winter. I love that I can wear a pair under my sweatpants when it’s really cold. I love wearing cute fall outfits that work perfectly with a pair of leggings.
On the flip side, I also want to be proud of the way I present myself. Although I’m not accountable for dirty thoughts that others might think of me, I am responsible for the image of myself I present to the world. I know that might be kind of confusing, but what I mean to say is this: I’m the only one who has control over the way I present myself as a human being to the outside world. I want to present myself as someone who is confident and who has self-worth and as someone who is to be respected . So I am careful on how I style my leggings when I wear them. That doesn’t mean I always cover my bum, but I want to make sure that my outfit overall looks put together and something that I can be proud to be seen in. I only own leggings that are thick enough to ensure that there is nothing that can be seen through them. When I walk out the door and into the world, I want people to see me and get a vibe for who I am because of my outfit and not just the fact that I’m wearing leggings that you can see my undies through. Does that make sense? Basically, I’m all for wearing leggings, all the time, but put forth my best effort to look presentable and respectable when wearing them.
I asked Dustin for his thoughts on my leggings and he said that while he appreciates it when I wear things long enough to cover my bum (more because he doesn’t like seeing other guys looking at me while we’re out together,) I’m an adult and can make my own choices. (I love that guy!) And, because I respect his opinion and want him to feel comfortable when we are in those situations, I do make a more conscious effort to pair my leggings with tunics and dresses when we’re out and about. I don’t want him throwing punches at other guys in the middle of Costco!
If you want to read a couple other opinions on the leggings vs. pants debate, Shannon from Salty Spaces has a fantastic post about why she keeps wearing leggings here.
Anyway, today I wanted to share two of my favorite pairs of leggings for fall and some style ideas for them. This summer I bought my first pair of Lularoe leggings and was so amazed at how comfortable they were and how high quality and thick the fabric was. But, they were 25 bucks a pop and as much as I love them, the price range was just not working with my obsession for leggings.
So, when Simple Addiction reached out and asked if they could send me a couple of their new leggings my way, I was all for it. And friends, I feel like I may have found a Lularoe Dupe for a fraction of the price!
The new Simple Addiction exclusive leggings are made almost exactly like Lularoe, down to the yoga waistband, which is incredibly comfortable to wear. The material is very soft and thick, so I don’t ever have to worry about them being see-through. And I put them through the stretch test several times through the last week to make sure the seams were strong and they are!
My favorite pair is this maroon pair because it just screams fall, right? I wanted to show how I wear leggings while being comfy and casual but still look put together and feel proud of the way I present myself. I paired these leggings with my new combat boots I snagged for only 2o DOLLARS on Amazon. They are SO comfortable and SO on trend and I am truly in love with them.
Instead of opting for just a white tee, I picked one with a little extra something! This sequenced tee is by jCrew and I snagged it from thredUp for only 6 dollars and it STILL HAD THE TAGS! (p.s. you should already know by know how much I love thredUp, so get your first 10 dollars there on me!)
Because I’m all about that layered look, I threw on my army green jacket that has the built in gray sweatshirt layer from Indigo & Sage. And to top it all off? One of my favorite (and cliche) beanies!
I also received these stunning Love Me Some Floral Simple Addiction leggings. I love that the florals were perfect for the darker and moodier days of fall (see my favorite fall floral dress here) and felt like these leggings would dress up nicely!
I wore this outfit when Dustin took me out to dinner in downtown SLC last week to celebrate our official 3.5 year anniversary. I wanted to look a little edgy, a little feminine and a little trendy and I think this combination does all three things!
The top is another thredUp score (seriously, use the 10 dollars and get yourself something awesome) originally from Express. I snagged that top for 9.99. I love that it gives me a shape without sucking to my gut and that it’s long enough to cover my bum!
Because I love adding that little element of edge, I decided to wear my heeled leather boots (also styled here and here) instead of flats. I accessorized with the red clutch I won from Jenn at hellorigby.com (styled here) and wore a statement necklace that I bought from Simple Addiction as well!
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the leggings debate and which outfit you liked more! Plus, Simple Addiction Leggings are on sale for under 10 dollars right now, so head over and treat yo’ self to a pair! Leave a comment below!
