Autumn Fashion Find: Fall Floral Dress
It’s a freaking beautiful 76 degrees outside today (Monday) with a slight breeze drifting through the windows of my new office. The sun is warm and gentle and the leaves are all igniting into this vibrant yellow and it’s fall. It’s October. It’s perfect. I’m feeling so inspired and so refreshed and am so excited to share this fun style on HTC today.
I know it’s been quite and sporadic on this space lately, but ever since we left Louisiana, we’ve been going a million miles a minute. I’ll be sharing more on our new lives here in Utah soon, but things are finally, finally slowing down enough for me to brainstorm, to write, and to get back to blogging.
So today, I am starting a series on the blog called Fashion Finds, where I share a seasonal fashion style that I’m experimenting with and chat about how to style it and where to buy it. I know that I get really frustrated with my closet as seasons change; I always feel like I don’t have enough clothes to get me through the season, or that I don’t know how to get the most out of the pieces I already have, or that many of the pieces don’t reflect my current style. I don’t want to spend a ton of money on updating my closet every season, so for me, it’s all about finding styles and trends that are affordable, that can be styled multiple ways and that can last longer than just one season.
Today, I’m sharing one of my favorite Autumn Fashion Finds from the last few months: a Fall Floral Dress.
Outfit Details:
Dress: Indigo & Sage
Belt: Walmart
Booties: Rue21 (similar here)
Necklace: The Happiness Boutique (Also styled here)
Earrings: Ink & Alloy (Also styled here)
Watch: JORD (Also styled here)
Why I love it:
I snagged this dress from my favorite Instagram Boutique called Indigo & Sage. They have it in a variety of colors (like burgundy, charcoal, and cream) but I decided to go with this olive green one because I felt like the color was so perfect for fall and unlike anything else I had in my closet. It’s mysterious and moody, which is exactly what I think of when I think of Autumn!
The cut and length of this dress is also different from other pieces I own. I love that the neckline is high and that the hem isn’t a straight-across cut. While the shape of this dress is different, it’s still flattering! Plus, it has pockets!
How to Style a Fall Floral Dress:
Break up the pattern- While the floral pattern is really fun, it’s a good idea to break it up with a solid colored accessory, like a belt or cardigan. This will prevent the pattern from completely taking over your body and hiding your figure.
Pair with Booties (not boots) – This goes back to the point above: while the print is pretty, we want to make sure we break it up because it can look really heavy if not styled correctly. If I wore regular knee-high boots, my legs would look a lot shorter and stumpier because the boots would cover most of my legs. By wearing booties, I’m giving some blank space to the bottom of my dress and helping elongate my body and break up the pattern by showing some skin.
Pair with a Vampy Lip – Since floral prints tend to be dark and moody, they are the perfect outfits to pair with a vampy lip because it brings the whole vibe of the season into your face. If I was to wear a bright pink lip with this dress, it would look really interesting and confused (but I mean, if you love pink lipstick, that’s fine, you do you, boo!) I decided to rock one of my favorite Colourpop Satin Lippies with this dress in the shade Frick ‘n Frack, which is a dark brown/mauve shade that totally complemented the coloring from the dress.
Other Style Ideas:
This dress would also pair well with a leather jacket, a chunky scarf and/or brown tights!
I’d love to know your thoughts on this fashion find: do you like it? How would you style it?
