FAQ’S
What’s Hey There, Chelsie about?
My biggest goal at HTC is to encourage women to pursue vibrant lives despite their scars or past. This blog started out as my safe place to share my own journey in overcoming my past and scars as a pediatric cancer survivor. HTC has slowly evolved into an online community where women come together to find encouragement to live more vibrantly by trying new things in beauty, style, travel, & life in general.
What’s your day job? I currently work in the recruiting department as a Recruiting Coordinator for a company called Unishippers. Unishippers specializes in shipping solutions for small and medium-sized businesses. I assist with posting jobs to job boards, screening candidates, setting up interviews, and logging all resumes.
What’s your degree in? I have a degree in English Education with a minor in History from BYU-Idaho. I used to teach high school English before deciding that the politics weren’t for me and leaving for a career in Human Resources.
I want to start a blog – where would you suggest I start? If you are serious about starting a blog, I’ve got several resources in HTC to help you get started. I would first suggest that you figure out what your focus or mission behind your blog is. That doesn’t mean you have to niche – because I firmly believe that Lifestyle Blogs Matter. After narrowing down your focus, it’s time to decide if you are going to go all in and self-host your site through WordPress.Org. Deciding on a host can be overwhelming, but I lay out all the things to know, plus my host recommendation here in this post: Blog Hosting 101.
If you still need some help, feel free to reach out. I have done blog mentorships in the past and would be willing to take you on if we are a good fit for each other!
What camera do you use? I currently shoot on a Nikon D3200 and primarily use a 50mm lens and a 35mm lens. I took a couple classes in college on photography, so I feel fairly comfortable behind the lens and dabble in portrait and engagement photography on the side. I actually shoot family portraits, engagements, and weddings on the side in Salt Lake City, so feel free to check out some of my work here.
Who takes your photos? My sweet husband, Dustin, has fully embraced the title of “Instagram husband” and takes the majority of my photos. He has learned how to shoot in manual and how to use different lenses to capture his vision. I’m so proud of him!
On occasion, I collaborate with some photographers in the Salt Lake Valley, including Sadie Banks Photography and Whitney Majors photography!
Can I guest post on your site? Thanks for your interest, but at this time, Hey There, Chelsie is not accepting guest posts.
I represent a brand and would love to partner with you and HTC – what do I do?
I would love to explore a collaboration and partnership with you that would benefit us both and my audience. Feel free to reach out to me at contact@heytherechelsie.com and we can talk about potential projects!
Can I trust you if you write sponsored posts?
I sure hope so. I didn’t start a blog to make money. I started blogging as a creative outlet after realizing that I didn’t want to pursue a career in teaching. My blog slowly opened me up to sharing more about my experiences as a pediatric cancer survivor and the journey I was on to love myself again and allow myself to pursue a vibrant second-chance life. That has always been my goal here, which is why I always write personal posts when I feel like it.
Monetizing my space came after building up my blog and I strive to only accept sponsored opportunities with products that I already love or products that I am introduced with and actually incorporate into my everyday life. The sponsored posts keep the lights on at HTC and help me pay for back-end expenses, like blog hosting and updated camera equipment. But I promise, that the day I start accepting sponsored posts for products that I don’t 100% truly love is the day I will stop blogging. Your trust and my integrity are much more important than money.
Can I send you an email? Yes, please! I love hearing from friends, readers, and even complete strangers who stumble across my space! Shoot me an email at contact@heytherechelsie.com or chelsie.c.carr@gmail.com
Do you have a hashtag I can use? I started the #myvibrantlife hashtag in June of 2016 and I have been blown away and humbled to see how many people have been using it. Please hashtag any of your photos on Instagram with it (regardless if you are a blogger or not) so I (and the #myvibrantlife community) can be inspired by your pursuit in living a full and colorful life.
Can I email you?
I’d love that more than anything! Say hi at chelsie.c.carr@gmail.com or contact@heytherechelsie.com
