I listened to a Christmas song on the way to work today and I am not sorry about it. Not one bit. Monday kicked off the BEST time of the year and from here on out, my life will be filled with Marshmallow Fireside candles, Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea Lattes and Christmas music. I’m a firm believer in enjoying every second I can during this time of year and you won’t ever find me shaming someone else for being “basic” because Pumpkin Spice and Blanket Scarves make them happy. Yeah, I went there.
ANYWAY. At the beginning of the week, my friend Karli (from everyday_ellis) encouraged me to watch Rachel Hollis’s Instagram live, where she introduced her #last90days challenge. I have been a fan of Rachel ever since I read Girl, Wash Your Face a few months ago (life changing) and love what she has to say when it comes to living a life you want. I was really really stoked about it after listening to Rachel remind me that I am the ONLY person in charge of my life and my happiness and knew I would be jumping in on her #last90days challenge.
If you want to learn more about the Last 90 Days challenge, you can check it out here. Basically, though, the idea is that by the end of the year, we tend to let ourselves go because the new year is just “around the corner.” I know I constantly think: “I’ll just get through the holidays and then I will start this new habit or make this change in my life.” Instead of falling into that trap, the Last 90 Days challenge helps set us up to have a KILLER last 90 days of the year in order to set us up for an even better new year. Rachel lays out a list of five things called her “Five to Thrive” that you have to work on every day. It includes finding an hour for yourself every day, drinking a certain amount of water, exercising for 30 minutes every day, giving up an unhealthy food, and practicing gratitude. They are all small and simple changes that, consistently done, can add up to big changes.
What I’m most excited about, in regards to completing this challenge, is proving to myself that I can control my life and stick to something. While I’ve made amazing improvements during my #yearofme, I haven’t committed to anything as consistently as this challenge asks me to. I know that I’m the only person who can make these kinds of changes in my life and I’m determined to prove to myself that I can make them. Fall always seems like the best time of the year for a fresh start and I’m excited to start it right now, instead of waiting three months and using it as an excuse to make poor choices.
Anyway, I decided I wanted to add a few more personal goals to my last 90 days to help me finish the #yearofme strong. Below are the goals I have and the plans I’m making to make sure I hit those goals!
No Spend October - And by this, I mean, so spending money on makeup or clothes or fall scented candles or anything that I don’t NEED! I’m currently doing a bedroom refresh this month, so there are a few things I know I’ll be spending money on to finish that project up, and I am going to start my Christmas shopping, but I definitely need to calm down on the clothing and makeup spending.
The Plan - I’ve muted my favorite big style deal bloggers for 30 days so I won’t be tempted to buy all the things they share during all the sales. I know that might sound awful, and I fully intend on consuming their content after October is up, but I am ALWAYS #addingtocart whenever one of them shares a super cute top that’s 50% off and before I know it, I’ve spent 200 dollars in the span of an hour. #badnewsbears for my wallet. I also used Unroll.me to unsubscribe from all the emails I get that share new products or sales (looking at you Bath & Body Works.) I also made sure to restock my makeup staples at the end of September so that I wouldn’t go to Ulta to replace my favorite mascara and walk out with an extra 10 products I wasn’t planning on buying.
Get consistent with content on HTC - That means posting on my blog 3X a week from here until the end of the year, sharing all the fun things on Instagram stories (my favorite place to hang out with all of you) and posting the photos I have waiting to be posted to my feed. I also have some fun Instagram Live projects coming down the pipe and I’ve been brainstorming some new (and hopefully helpful) Instagram Story series to do. I have so much to share and say and I want to actually sit down and share it.
The Plan - Every morning, I text my accountability partner, Taylor (from Blonde and Ambitious Blog) my to-do list and throughout the day, I text her as I check things off (and send photos as proof.) I sent her my monthly goals at the beginning of October, sharing exactly what I’m working towards and so she can hold me accountable for staying on track. I have my monthly goals broken down into weekly goals and am doing everything I can to check them off every day. I also meet with my Utah mastermind every week, which also holds me accountable and keeps me motivated.
Get out of the house - Sounds vague, but hear me out. In an effort to make 2018 the #yearofme, I’ve been saying NO to everything I don’t want to do. That’s been empowering and freeing and has allowed me to focus on the things I do want to do. However, I realized I started saying no to things I did want to do, and that my husband and family stopped asking if I wanted to do things because they assumed the answer would be no. Oops. This is my absolute favorite time of year and I want to take full advantage of the beautiful weather and all the season-themed activities and say YES!
The Plan - I sat down with Dustbust and we picked 5 different events or activities we wanted to do for the month of October. This includes Frightmares at Lagoon, doing an Escape Room at Alcatraz, taking the dogs to Dog Days at Ashton Garden, Pumpkin Nights in Salt Lake City, and doing Dog Dayze in the Maze. We have some fall-themed activity going on every week for the rest of the month and I can fill in the nights around those events with the things I need to do or want to do. I won’t feel as bad saying no to any other activities because I already have a good chunk planned and scheduled!

I decided that if I hit all of these goals on top of the five to thrive in the last 90 days of the year, I’m going to treat myself to a designer handbag. (I tend to be more motivated when there are prizes involved!) I’ve wanted a Tory Burch bag for a long time but just haven’t been able to bring myself to spend the money on one. NO MORE! If I can hit these goals for 90 days in a row, then I am going to treat myself!!
Are you doing the #last90days challenge? What things do you want to achieve during the last 90 days of the year?
