In typical Chelsie fashion, as I wandered aimlessly through the many aisles of Target last week, putting about 10 things in my basket that I did not need, I came to a sudden and sickening realization: the back-to-school supplies were out. I mean, I’ve known that it’s been coming, but is summer really that close to being over? Before I know it, Dustin and I will be packing up our apartment in Louisiana and moving on to our next adventure and we’ll be breaking out our fall boots and sweaters!
Anyway, as I was making my mandatory stop in the cosmetics section of Target, I saw a new section dedicated to essence cosmetics and just about whooped with joy. If you have read any of my recent posts, you know by now that I really really love some products essence cosmetics and have raved about them before (specifically the brow gel!) I was thrilled to see them being carried at Target! Their products are always on-trend, high-quality and amazingly affordable. Plus, they are cruelty-free, and they try to build a community of real girls who make the most of life and choose happiness. As someone who is constantly trying to live a vibrant life despite my past, essence cosmetics is truly a brand I can stand behind.
As I was loading my basket up with a bunch of essence products, I decided it might be helpful if I put together a back-to-school makeup tutorial for all my friends getting ready to start classes back up. Let’s be real: no one has time to put layers of makeup on, blend out 5-10 different eyeshadows and apply false lashes while trying to get out of the door and to class. I wanted to put together a fairly simple and fast tutorial that will help you look awake, fresh and professional without taking up much time in the morning! Plus, I’m using almost ALL essence cosmetic products, so it’s savvy for your college budget as well.
Back-to-School Makeup Tutorial:
Starting with your base: I first started with my face base, where I applied my favorite silicon based primer and then applied my go-to CC cream on top. I recommend a CC cream for your daily back-to-school makeup because it’s lighter and won’t crease or cake up during the day and looks very natural on the skin. I also applied concealer under my eyes in a shade lighter than my skin tone and blended it out with a damp beauty sponge. Concealer = MUST HAVE for those dark circles that go hand-in-hand with 2AM study sessions. I set everything with a translucent powder so that it wouldn’t crease or slip during the day.
Eye Shadow: Simple is better in the case of back-to-school makeup, s0 I actually grabbed my essence cosmetics Sun Club mattifying bronzer ($4.99) in the shade 01 and swept it through my crease. This gives my eyes some definition and shape without being over the top.
Mascara & Liner: As much as I love a good dramatic wing, it’s not necessarily appropriate for a university class. I used the essence cosmetics Waterproof Gel Eye Pencil ($2.99) in the shade Black Blaze and tight lined my upper lash line. Tightlining is a great way to add definition to your lash line and it makes your lashes look fuller without the struggle and hassle of getting your wings even. After tight lining, I applied two coats of the Lash Princess mascara ($4.99) to both top and bottom lashes. I’ve mentioned before how impressed I am with this mascara; it’s a very close dupe for my favorite high-end one!
Inside Corners: To open my eyes up and give them a little extra pop, I dabbed a little bit of the essence cosmetic single eyeshadow ($1.99) in the shade 02 Apricotta in the inner corners and brow bones. This beautiful pearly pink shadow is SO pigmented and buttery!
Brows: I like to keep my brow game simple for back to school, so I simply sweep my essence cosmetics Make Me Brow ($2.99) in shade 02 through my brow hairs. I have raved about this product several times before on my blog and still stand by it. It makes my sparse eyebrows look fuller and is great for an easy and natural brow look.
Face: To finish up my face, I applied my essence Sun Club bronzer in the hollows of my cheeks, across the temples of my forehead. This adds warmth and dimension to my face and helps my summer tan come out through my foundation! I also sweep the bronzer along my jaw line to give it a little more definition.
I added the essence cosmetics Silky Touch blush ($2.99) in Babydoll (a long, long time favorite of mine) to the apples of my cheeks to help my face look more awake and fresh and then I took a little bit of the Apricotta shadow and blended it into the very high points of my cheekbones to give a little glow.
Lips: To finish off the look, I swiped some essence lipstick in the shade Love Me ($2.99) across my lips and topped it off with some essence XXXL shine gloss in the shade Cute Pink ($2.49.) I choose a light pink lipstick and gloss because I felt like it was more school appropriate and gloss helps the color last longer during those long classes. I really love the essence gloss; it’s very shiny and comfortable and not sticky AT ALL! Huge points in my book!
Tada! Super fast, super easy, SUPER affordable and looking super put together! In case you lost count, all the essence cosmetic products I used total up to just over $25.00! It is possible to get high-quality products for a great price and I think essence cosmetics is one brand that truly delivers in that category!
P.S. How cute is this tote that essence sent me in the mail? If I was heading back to school this fall, you bet I would be carrying all my books around in it. My husband may disagree, but I really do believe that every makeup bag should be that big.
