DIY Burlap Wreath
Okay, let’s get one thing out in the open. I am a born and raised New England girl, which means my absolute favorite time of the year is Autumn. In the last few weeks, Idaho experience a weird week of almost solid rain and since then, the days have cooled down to perfect 70 degree weather. The very tips of the leaves have started to change from green to yellow. I’ve been spending my mornings with Rosie through the local nature park all bundled up because the air is cool, but not cold. Crisp, some might call it.
Anyway, before I get lost in the words that could be used to describe this perfect, heavenly kind of weather, let me get to my most recent craft. When the weather started cooling down, I immediately broke out all of my fall scented candles and waxes for my wax warmers and I went down to our local craft store to find some fall themed crafts I could do to decorate our little apartment.
When I saw a similar burlap wreath hanging in the store, I knew I needed to make one for our door! I bought some supplies, tried to look up some tutorials, got confused and decided I would just wing it.
Not to toot my own horn, but I’m pretty impressed with my winging!
Here is how I did it:
Materials: A wreath wire frame, two spools of burlap ribbon, hot glue gun, wooden letter and fall floral (dollar store is great for fall floral stuff)
I first tied the ribbon to the wire frame. Then I pulled the ribbon across the back of the frame and pulled up the ribbon up in between each section.
You can make these loops as big or small as you want. Don’t be afraid to let the ribbon fold over or twist as it wants; it makes it look even better. After all the loops have been pulled through, I twisted the ribbon really tight to help anchor it and then folded it around and started the weaving pattern again.
Continue the weaving until you have the whole frame filled! I hot glued my last end into the wreath so I didn’t have to tie it.
After I finished the wreath, I painted my wooden C an awesome fall burnt orange color.
To finish it off, I hot glued my fall floral and C to my wreath. I used A LOT of hot glue because the C is kind of heavy and I didn’t want it falling off. I used some extra burlap to make a loop at the top so I could hang it!
