Homegating Essentials for the Superbowl

Superbowl Sunday is just TWO Sunday’s away and we are VERY excited (being Patriots fans, and all.) Even though we’ve been pretty dang spoiled with our team making it to the Superbowl for the last three years, we love throwing Superbowl viewing parties every year, no matter who’s playing. There’s just something magical about combining the biggest football game of the year with friends, family, and food! Sometimes we’re invested in the game and sometimes we’re not, but we love an excuse to get together to watch the commercials, critique the half-time show, and snack, all in the comfort of our home.
Since the Patriots have played in the Superbowl for 4 out of the 5 years that we’ve been married (I know, I know, you’re probably annoyed about that) we’ve really gotten “Homegating” down to a science. (Who else loves the term “homegating?” AKA – gathering at home with friends & family to eat food and watch football? Yes please!) Turns out, you do not have to spend a lot of money or fill your belly with lots of unhealthy junk food in order to have a great party – you just have to grab a few essentials from the store or Amazon and you’re all set!
Here are the three homegating essentials we’ll have on hand for our Superbowl party this Sunday to keep it simple & tasty:
Homegating Essentials
- Paper products – Let’s be real: no one has time nor patience to clean a bunch of dishes after hosting friends and family and going through the emotional rollercoaster that is rooting for your team during the Superbowl. We always grab a pack of paper plates with some football decorations, a box of plastic utensils, and a bag of plastic cups so that everyone can snack happily and then throw it ALL out at the end of the night. No dishes, no messes, no problem!
- Markers – Going hand-in-hand with the plastic products, we’ve learned to always have a couple of permanent markers on hand so that everyone can label their cups or cans of soda. It’s really awkward picking up a cup of rootbeer and drinking it, only to realize that it was your brother’s (sorry, Jake!) We usually encourage everyone to label their drinks right before the game starts so that no one has to worry about any drink switch-a-roos during the game!
- Pick good-for-you snacks – We were recently introduced to popchips and their ‘bold & crunchy’ popchips ridges and we. are. obsessed. They have three flavors: of buffalo ranch, tangy barbecue, and cheddar & sour cream, and they are all SO tasty. The new ridge style creates a thicker chip
with even more flavor and makes them sturdier for dipping, which, in turn, makes them even better for Superbowl Sunday. The tangy barbecue is my personal favorite to eat on its own (it’s the best bbq flavoring I’ve ever had on a chip) and Dustin ate a whole bag of buffalo ranch in the span of one day. popchips are PERFECT for game-day because they fill the need for chips without making you feel greasy or gross because they are NOT fried and contain real ingredients, with select flavors being non-GMO. No moist towelettes, no sauces, no grease needed to enjoy all the best flavors that come with game day. OH AND – they are also gluten free, kosher, and 130 calories per serving. Literally the most perfect chip in the world and an absolute essential for us now when it comes to homegating. We actually ate through 3 bags during the AFC championship game last Sunday and placed an order on Amazon for more so we will be fully stocked for the big game next weekend (EEEE!)
Homegating and Superbowl watching doesn’t have to be crazy or extravagant. You just need a few simple products, some tasty chips and guac, and a little bit of love for football and family and you’re good to go! What are your plans for Superbowl Sunday?
