How to Treat Dry Skin

Minus the lack of fall temperatures in Arizona, we’ve been pretty thrilled with our new home state. Our neighborhood is clean and quiet, we live a mile away from Dustin’s new job and two miles away from a local dog park. And, we’re five minutes away from Costco, Ulta and Target! Coming from Idaho, where the closet Target was 40 minutes away and Costco was a whopping 1.5 hours, it fills me with glee every time I think about getting in my car, crossing a few streets and ending up at my favorite stores (much to my husband’s chagrin).
The one thing that has not enjoyed Arizona has been my skin. After spending the summer in humid New England, getting to the dry dessert made my skin have a complete and total meltdown. I’ve been dealing with major breakouts, dry patches and flaky skin and a lot of blotchy redness everywhere. On top of that, my scar (from my tumor resection and knee replacement) is really delicate and when it gets dry, it tends to start splitting from dryness. My hair has been super brittle from lack of moisture and my lips have been way chapped. It’s been rough and I just want my skin to love Arizona as much as I do!
If I was really good at remembering to apply lotion every morning, things might not be so bad, but I am terrible at remembering to put lotion on when I’m getting ready in the morning. I am just so excited to put my make-up on that I quickly dry off, throw on my clothes and hustle to my vanity, lotion forgotten and my skin continue to dry out. So, here’s how to treat dry skin, the Chelsie way!
Thank goodness I was introduced to Jergen’s new Wet Skin Moisturizer, because it has seriously saved my skin without drastically changing my morning routine! This is a new product offered at Target (which I now can go visit on a bi-weekly basis because I live five minutes away!!!)
This moisturizer is different from regular lotion because you apply it to your wet skin, so it helps lock in the moisture from the water into your skin for the next 24 hours. And, you don’t need to rinse it off, you just pat it dry like normal. The best thing about this formula is that it doesn’t leave any residue or lotion streaks after you dry your skin; it literally seeps in with the water and locks the moisture. Because of how this moisturizer works with water, I keep it in my bathroom so I can remember to apply it before I dry off and get dressed! As an added bonus, the scents I have (Green Tea and Coconut) smell amazing!
Not only have I seen drastic improvement in the last two weeks since I started using it in my skin, but my scar has healed perfectly and hasn’t split or cracked since. Learning to take care of my scar has been an uphill battle; I never know what’s going to make that skin angry, so I’m glad that Jergens has created something that my scar loves.
