I love blogging. I love the friends I’ve made in my blogging community. I love that it pushes me creatively, that I’m challenged to improve my photography, the way I view my closet and the way I approach my makeup. I love that through blogging, I’ve been able to work on my own issues, like being proud of my scars and accepting that it’s okay to feel sad about things.
That being said, it’s really easy to let my blog totally rule my life. Now that I’m blogging full time, I’ve noticed that it’s really easy for me to park myself in front of my computer screen for hours and hours. Even though I get a lot done for my blog during that time, I’ve realized that it’s not healthy for me to be plugged in like that for the whole day. I’ve been working on finding the balance between blogging and staying active and healthy, which is how I came to create a “me-time” box.
What’s a “me-time” box? Essentially, it’s a box or cubby full of activities that you can do unplugged to help you unwind and just be still for a minute. Every afternoon, at 1:30, I close my lap top, put my phone on silent and pull out my “me-time” box and some of the new OREO Thins to munch on. If you think you could use something like this, here’s how I made my “me-time” box:
First, I found a box or cubby to put all of my”me-time” things in it. Then, find a few things to put in it that you can do unplugged. I put some fall-colored nail polish because painting my nails is one of the ways I take time to show myself some love.
I also included a book that I’m in the middle of reading and my adult coloring book Kayla gave me in my Summer Reads Book Swap:
And of course, I needed my coloring pens, so that I can actually color! I got this cute set off of amazing and I love the travel case they came in!
Depending on my mood, I’ll take the time to paint my nails or read my book or color, but all of those activities I can do without electronics. It’s so nice to have those 30 minutes to just be still and to be alone with my thoughts.
Of course, my 1:30 break conveniently co-insides with my afternoon munchies, so it’s the perfect time to get a snack, too. I’ve been recently obsessing over the new OREO Thins that I got at CVS while I was on the hunt for the new Milani Matte Lip Creme.
OREOS have been one of my favorite snacks for the longest time; they were my go-to snack during finals weeks in my college days. Obviously, regular OREOS are not ideal for nail polish or coloring books because I have to eat them by taking the cookie apart and licking the filling. So, these new OREO Thins are ideal because there is no need to pull them apart; they actually taste better by eating them in one or two bites! It’s a totally new way to experience OREOS; these are crispy and easy to eat and they come in three flavors (Original, Mint and Golden) so I can always change up what kind to snack on.
I can’t recommend making a “me-box” enough; since I started implementing my time-out from electronics, I’ve noticed that I’ve been happier, healthier and more self-aware. Plus, I love any excuse to eat my new favorite OREOS! Tell me, have you tried the new OREO Thins? Which flavor would you like to take a break with?
