How to Save Money on your Cable Bill

Well. It’s official. Our house is on the market. The “For Sale” sign is in the front yard. We’ve been busy with back-to-back showings (15 in the last 4 days.) We have an offer in on a new place in the area we want to move to and have our fingers crossed that the stars align and that everything we’ve been working towards falls into place.
It’s been an exhausting few weeks getting the house ready for the market and figuring out all of our finances for our next home purchase. We’re really excited about the potential this house sale has to set us up financially (more on this to come) but until everything is set in stone, we’re in major savings mode. Moving is EXPENSIVE, even if you’re only moving 30 minutes South and we don’t want to end up in the hole after everything is said in done.
Dustin and I sat down and took a good look at our finances a couple of weeks ago to figure out where we could cut back while we wait for the sale of our house to go through. We knew we definitely needed to stop eating out (I can’t even remember the last time we cooked a meal in our kitchen, but it was before the kitchen sink debacle of 2019.) We also looked at all of our subscriptions and bills to see if there was anything we could cancel or cut out for the time being. While we both are willing to make sacrifices while we prepare for this transition to a new home, we also didn’t want to completely deprive ourselves of the things that make us happy (and for me, that is watching HGTV to end the day!)

So, what is OrbyTV and how does it work?
OrbyTV which is an amazing tv service that allows you to save money on your cable bill without having to actually give up your favorite tv channels!
To be honest, we were a little skeptical when we first learned about OrbyTV. It seemed too good to be true – especially since we’ve been in nightmare situations before with internet and tv providers and their sneaky contracts.
Think about prepaid cellphones, but in Sattelite TV form! Basically, you go to BestBuy and purchase the OrbyTV equipment, which is the Satellite Reciever box and remote for $99.00 (or $199.00 if you want the DVR option.) After you purchase your equipment, you set up a time for your satellite dish and antenna to be installed and activated. Once your equipment is all hooked up, you only have to pay one monthly fee to access all of the channels.
That’s right. One monthly fee. No activation fees. No contracts. No cancellation fees. Just $40.00 or $50.00 a month, depending on what channel package you want. You can pause your service whenever you want through your online account and easily turn it back on without paying any additional costs. This is AWESOME because we’ll be able to pause our service during the month we move since we won’t be watching a lot of TV (you know, when the TV is packed up and in a moving truck.)
Another amazing feature about OrbyTV is that once you have your equipment installed, you’ll always have access to local channels, regardless of if you are paying for the satellite channels. That’s because the equipment comes with an antenna that will allow you to watch Fox, NBC, ABC, and all of your local news channels! This is seriously a GAME CHANGER for us, because we were paying a LOT of money to watch our Patriot games during football season. Between CBS AllAccess pass and NFL Sunday Ticket, our tv expenses were through the roof in order to watch the Patriots play. Now that we have Orby, we’ll be able to cancel those services and watch our football games in real time, on the tv, like everyone else, except for a fraction of the cost.
The OrbyTV channel lineup is fantastic. I get my favorite channels, like HGTV and the Food Network, and some fun channels that you typically have to pay a TON of extra money for, like the DIY Network and Investigation Discovery. You can view the full line-up of channels here.
Watching HGTV every night and finding some home decor inspiration for our new space has been my favorite way to unwind from my day and de-stress from the chaos of selling our house. I’m so glad that we were able to find a solution that allowed us to keep our favorite TV channels while drastically cutting down our costs. If you’re looking to save on your cable bill, we 10/10 recommend OrbyTV!
