Get that Summery Glow Without a Tanning Bed
If you have been around here for a while, by now, you know about my love for makeup. Even though inner beauty is the most important, I still love taking the time to put my face on. Lately, I’ve been particularly fond of products that offer a little more than just a painted effect. I know it’s super tempting to hop into a tanning bed to get that sun kissed glow, but let me tell you, the risks for skin cancer make it so not worth it. There are a lot of products that help provide the fresh and dewy look that I want during the summer, so here are some tips to get that summery glow without a tanning bed!
When it comes to our skin, we can never be too careful. It’s fragile and beautiful at the same time, and I want to look after mine. However, I love changing my looks up and sometimes I want it to appear softer and more golden. This is especially true at the start of the summer when I break out my bathing suit for the first swim of the year! I hate being the palest, so I pick products that offer a little more of a summer glow at this time of the year.
Products that are enhanced with a little bronzer certainly go a long way to enhancing my confidence. I know the celebrity trends are for deep tans that shimmer. I know, I know, you and I have both heard amazing things about the Kardashian Glow tanning bronzer but since I’ve already done the cancer thing once, I’ve decided that the tanning bed thing is just not for me. I’ve been using Sally Hansen’s Airbrushed Legs to even out my legs and arms and love how easy it is to apply and that it isn’t streaky! Even scarred legs need some love!
For the face, I generally use bronzer powders as part of my makeup routine, but you can also find creams to offer a touch of deeper color. These can be a good start at the beginning of the summer. The best thing is, they help create that fresh, flawless look that tanning gives you without the risk of damaging your skin. NYC makes an awesome matte bronzer in the shade Sunny that I’m currently obsessed with; plus it’s about 2 bucks at the drugstore! Apply it on the tops of your forehead, your jaw bone and right below your cheek bones to get the perfect sun kissed look.
To get the most from any of these products, it’s important to start with healthy skin. For a fresh look, eat fresh! Fresh fruit, in particular, is known to help improve the quality of your skin so you can create that flawless glow. A good and regular skincare routine is key to perfecting your skin (which I know I talk about a lot, but it’s important to me!) That way you can add makeup or tanning products without worrying about upsetting already unhappy skin.
If you are out in the sun a lot, use a sunscreen to avoid patches of dry or burnt skin. I can’t recommend BB cream enough; it’s a great and light alternative to foundation in the summer that has SPF built into it! Aftersun or a post-tanning product is often recommended after being in the sun, too. I know, I know, I talk about sunscreen a lot, but I seriously cannot stress how important it is to wear it! Your skin will love you for it and, it’s still possible to get some healthy color while wearing it! This will help keep your skin looking fresh and flawless all summer long while not getting skin cancer!
What products do you use to get that summer glow? Have you used a good self tanner? Do you stay away from the tanning bed?
