The Top 10 Best Rom-Com Movies on Netflix (& Low-Carb Movie Snack Ideas!)
I was going through Christmas Movie withdrawals last month SO BADLY. I kept sitting down and turning on Netflix thinking about watching a Cheesy Christmas movie and then realizing with such deep sadness that Christmas is OVER and I have to wait at least 6 months until it’s socially acceptable to start watching Christmas movies again. (Yes, I start getting ready for Christmas in July and I’m not sorry about it.) So, in the absence of the wonderful cheesy goodness of The Christmas Prince, I decided to embark on a Valentine’s Day Movie adventure. I’ve been watching ALL the rom-coms that Netflix has to offer over the last couple weeks and feel like I have thoroughly rounded up the best ones Netflix has to offer.
So, get ready to spend the next couple days leading up to Valentine’s Day cozied up with your girlfriends, spouse, or your pup (all make great snuggle buddies) and treat yourself to a fun rom-com! Here are the 10 Best Rom-Com Movies on Netflix.
How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days – I haven’t watched this one in a forever, but I’m so glad Netflix has it because it. is. so. funny. If you haven’t seen this classic yet, Kate Hudson plays a writer who is trying to explore her writing career. She takes on an assignment in which she needs to share all the wrong ways to date a guy, by actually dating a guy and making him break up with her. She chooses a guy who has his own agenda – a bet with his co-workers that he can make any woman fall in love with him in just 10 days. Chaos ensues. My favorite part? When “Princess Sophia” is introduced.
13 Going on 30 – When her birthday party goes awry, a geeky teenager named Jenna makes a wish in her closet that she could be thirty, flirty and thriving. She wakes up 17 years later and finds that she is 13 years old with an amazing dream life…but is still only 13 at heart! Jennifer Gardner is amazing in this movie and is adorable as she navigates her adult life as a 13-year-old. She is hysterical.
The Matchbreaker – This is the classic so-cheesy-it-hurts rom-com that Hallmark plays. After he’s paid to break up a relationship by a disapproving mother, a former romantic finds high demand for his services. Then, he’s asked to break up his middle-school crush and promptly falls in love with her instead. What will happen when she (inevitably) finds out the truth?
Beauty & the Briefcase – Hiliary Duff starts as a writer who goes undercover to write an article for Cosmo about finding love in the business world using a list of criteria for her ‘magic man’. It’s a perfect mix of cheesiness and nostalgia and it’s perfect.
Definitely, Maybe – This may be one of my all-time favs. Ryan Reynolds and baby Abigal Breslin, PLUS Isla Fisher, Elizabeth Banks AND Rachel Weisz? Literally the best of the best of the best! Ryan Reynolds plays a father who is going through a divorce and spends the whole movie telling his daughter the story of how he and her mother met. The only catch is that there are three women in the story and she has to guess which one is her mom. It’s really heartwarming and Isla Fischer’s character is my spirit animal.
Leap Year – I watched this one for the first time a couple weeks ago and loved it! Amy Adams plays a girl named Anna, who chooses February 29th (Leap Year’s Day) to propose marriage to her boyfriend in Ireland (it’s a superstitious family tradition.) However, her trip to Ireland get’s derailed and she ends up meeting a charming innkeeper, which forces her to evaluate her original plans.
No Reservations – Another young Abigail Breslin steals the show in this movie (also featuring Aaron Eckhart and Catherine Zeta-Jones.) This movie follows Kate, an uptight chef, who finds her life turned upside down when her sister dies in a car accident and she becomes her niece’s sole guardian. She must navigate the waters of becoming a parent to her niece and a relationship with another chef.
Hitch – This movie is pretty much the direct opposite of The Matchbreaker. Instead of breaking couples apart, Hitch helps clients make a great impression on a date. However, he’s totally thrown off his game when a lovely reporter starts nosing around his business. Personally, I think this is one of Will Smith’s bests. Definitely a few laughs along the way.
Christian Mingle – Okay, so this one definitely has a strong Jesus theme, but Lacey Chalbert (think the girl with the big hair full of secrets from Mean Girls) does an amazing job of making you giggle the whole way through. Gweneth is having issues finding love, so she turns to a Christian Dating site to find love (even though she doesn’t identify as religious) and it is so funny watching her try to be Christian while dating a handsome guy she met online.
License to Wed – GUYS! WHERE HAS THIS MOVIE BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE?! This stars Mandy Moore, John Krasinski and ROBIN WILLIAMS come together for a HYSTERICAL rom-com movie and it is everything. Basically, the characters that Many and John play get engaged, but can only get married in the bride’s church after they pass the counseling given by the pastor (Robin Williams.) As you can imagine, it’s a hoot.
Low-Carb Snacks for Movie Watching
If you follow me on Instagram Stories, you’ll know that I’m currently following a low-carb eating plan to help me find more energy and lose a little bit of weight (in order to help my knee replacement last longer.) It’s been terrifying to post such vulnerable photos of myself, but I’m so encouraged and motivated after all of your support and love. THANK YOU! Anyway, one of the things I was most scared of when switching to a low-carb lifestyle was missing out on all my favorite snacks. And yes, I don’t eat Oreos anymore, I have found a lot of really tasty low-carb alternatives for snacking and watching movies. One of my all-time FAVORITE lower-carb snacks is SkinnyPop! It’s only 9 Net Carbs per serving – and each serving is 3 3/4 cups! That’s a LOT of popcorn for 9 carbs and it is so tasty (not too salty, not too oily.) I usually get the giant bags at Costco and pack baggies of it for work and snack on it during movie night! P.S. this isn’t sponsored, I just genuinely love Skinny Pop and was so stoked when I realized it was a great low-carb snack for movies!
Here are a few other low-carb snack ideas:
- dark chocolate covered almonds (in moderation, of course.)
- beef jerky
- berries (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries.)
- guacamole and one serving of Frito scoops
- beef jerky
- cheese and salami
- carrots and onion dip
- zucchini chips
- salami & cream cheese roll-ups
- chicken wings
- zucchini or mushroom fries (coated in parmesan cheese and roasted in the oven)
- peanut butter fatbombs (recipe coming soon!)
Time to get off your computer or phone, fire up Netflix and grab a guilt-free snack and treat yo’self!
