The Best and Worst of Covergirl
I’m super excited to bring a special extra edition of In and Out this month to Life with Rosie. Last month, I received a Covergirl Voxbox from Influenster to try out Covergirl’s newest mascara and eyeliner duo. Not going to lie, I was super impressed with the quality of the products, especially the liner. It got me thinking…what other products are out there by Covergirl that I’m ignoring because I’m too smitten with fancier brands most of the time? I think half the reason why I always stray away from the endless isles of cosmetics at Target is because it’s so overwhelming to pick a shade of a foundation to try or figure out what type of lipgloss is going to work. I decided I would find out which Covergirl products were awesome and which ones were not…so I bought as many different types of Covergirl products as I could afford this month and trying them out for the last three weeks straight. There are some definite products that are IN and some that are definitely OUT and a few in the middle, but I hope that by putting this Covergirl In and Out guide together, it will help someone feel a little more confident in trying a make up product without stressing out about it not being quality.
Ready Set Gorgeous Oil Free Foundation (in shade 115): This may be my new favorite foundation (and that’s coming from a girl who uses Clinque!). This foundation feels a little different since it’s oil free, but it’s amazing. It goes on really light and doesn’t look cakey at all. And for a light foundation, the coverage is amazing! It evened out my skin tone, stayed all day and all of my photos made me look slightly airbrushed. I am seriously so impressed with this foundation! My only “issue” with it is that it was a smidgen too light for me after I spent this last weekend out in the sun.
CGsmoothers BB Cream (in light-medium): Okay, I love this stuff. Not only does it give me added sun protection (SPF 21) but it provides a great base for foundation . I’ve been using it as a primer and definitely noticed a difference in how long my foundation lasted on the days I used it like that.
Covergirl Trublend in Pressed Prowder (in light-medium): Very impressed with this powder! I use it to set my foundation and concealer and love the finish it gives me. I also have noticed that this stuff stays on for a decent amount of time (5-6 hours) before needed to be reapplied.
Covergirl Colorlicious Lipgloss (tried in colors 640 Juicyfruit and ) I was really impressed with the color of these glosses and felt like they lasted for a decent amount of time (2-3 hours before a need for application). They aren’t very sticky or messy!
Covergirl Colorlicious Lipstick (tried in colors 410 Ravishing Rose and 280 Decadent Peach) These lipsticks are smooth and creamy and pair up really well with the colorlicious lipglosses I mentioned above. I first tried the Decadent Peach shade, which is a really pale nude color, which I loved. I wanted to make sure that the lipstick was bright and pigmented in the bolder colors, so I picked up Ravishing Rose a few days later, and it was! I definitely like these lipsticks!
Covergirl Outlast Lipstick (tried in 930 Shocking Pink) Outlast is right. This stuff lasted me over 6 hours while outside, in the sun, watching a baseball game. The color is REALLY bright (which was weird for me at first because I haven’t worn a lip color that bright…ever) but it was creamy, bright and had great stay power.
Covergirl Jumbo Gloss Balm (tried in 215 Watermelon) I think this is a great alternative to lipstick/gloss. It’s a really smooth balm that has a great color to it. It didn’t last as long as the other lipsticks I tried, but I think this is great for a purse.
Covergirl Supersizer Mascara (c/o Influenster) This mascara really surprised me! It definitely builds powerful, thick lashes without getting clumpy. I still swear by my Too Faced BTS as my holy grail, but this stuff is a really close second.
Covergirl Eyeshadow Quads (tried in Stunning Smokies and Va-Va Violets): This line was inspired by Pitch Perfect 2 and I was really excited about the different colors that I bought two of them to try out. These eyeshadows were really creamy and blended really well. They were a little too shimmery for every day wear, but are awesome for a night out or a super dramatic day look. They are really easy to smoke out, too!
Covergirl Intensify Me Liquid Eyeliner (c/o Influenster) This is one of the best liquid eyeliners I’ve used in a very long time. The applicator tip is really unique, giving you the opportunity to create a thin or thick line. It lasts a really long time and is really easy to apply. Definitely IN!
Covergirl Bombshell Curvaceous Mascara: Ugh, no. This stuff looks so promising in the tube/packaging. It doesn’t provide any volume or curl and it’s SUPER hard to get off. I seriously spent 5 minutes on each eye with my Mary Kay make-up remover and still couldn’t get it all off my eyelashes.
Covergirl Tru Blend Mineral Bronzer in Medium: If you want to look like a vampire out of Twilight, use this. If not, stay away. This stuff is WAY too sparkly. I put a light dusting on my temples, walked outside to my car and couldn’t believe how sparkly I was! EEK!
Covergirl Tru Magic Luminizer: Also WAY too sparkly for my liking. And it’s a weird texture. It’s not powder. It’s not creamy. It’s like a weird hybrid. And it doesn’t go on nicely. It’s just not a winner.
Covergirl Outlast Lipstain (tried in color 435): For a lip stain, I expected a ton more out of it’s stay power. By the end of hour 2, no one would know I had put anything on my lips earlier. Not impressed. Also, the color I tried made it look like I had eaten a blood orange. Ew.
Covergirl Eye Enhancer 4-Kit Shadow (in 286 Smokey Nudes): This quad wasn’t as great as the new quads that are on the IN list. The colors were too similar and they didn’t blend out very well. Not a huge fan of these quads; I would recommend the new ones.
Covergirl Trublend Liquid Foundation: The first few times I tried this I was really excited and pleased with the results. Then I stepped outside for a few hours and felt like my face was melting off. This foundation is NOT for summer time or heat. It melted off, creased and felt just so greasy and oily. Stay away!
PHEW! That rounds it out! I had so much fun trying out all of these products and narrowing down what ones from Covergirl are In and which ones are Out. What Covergirl products do you like? Have you tried any of these? What other drugstore make up brands would you be interested in learning about?
