A Few of my Favorite Things | March – Salt Lake City Style Blog
You know, I really couldn’t believe that it was April but today as I was driving home for lunch, I realized that all the trees in our neighborhood are starting to bloom so it really MUST BE APRIL! I’m so excited warmer weather is on the way, although I’m nervous about how dry our winter has been here in Utah. We seriously only got one serious snowstorm this year, which means our snowpack is low in the mountains. Everyone is saying out summer is going to be HOT this year. We’re trying super duper hard to save up and put central air in the house before June comes, but I’m not sure if we’ll be able to swing it this year. Fingers crossed.
Anyway, I wanted to take a minute and share some of my favorite things from March because it was a GOOD month. I mean, it was crazy crazy busy, but it was good. It was probably the best March I’ve had in a long time!
Favorite Things | March
Maybelline’s SuperStay Matte Ink Lippies – I saw a few of my favorite beauty bloggers talk about this product on Instagram (Meg says it stayed on ALL DAY at Disney World for her) so I went on a mission to get my hands on some and try it out. THESE ARE BULLETPROOF! I’ve done all day wear tests on Instagram stories twice and I went 12-14 hours without reapplying ONCE. Of course, by the end of the 14 hours, they didn’t look amazing, but they honestly didn’t look too awful either. They are not drying at all and they DON’T transfer. I’m not kidding. Nothing on my cup, my straw, my teeth, my husband, or Teddy’s white head. My favorite color is Lover, but I also really love Seductress. I want to get my hands on some brighter colors for spring soon!
Pitch Perfect 3 – I got to team up with Universal Home Studios and throw myself a birthday party to celebrate Pitch Perfect 3 coming out on Blu-Ray in March. I had so much fun with my girlfriends having a “Pitches Night In” (all the details on how to throw a similar party here) and friends, this movie is HYSTERICAL. Dustin and I have watched it at least three times since my party – it’s so funny. I think it’s even funnier than the second one. Definitely a pick-me-up kind movie to have on hand at all times.
Tony Moly I’m Real Lemon Mask Sheet – Remember when I had two “friends” (cough -pimples- cough) move onto my face a couple weeks ago? I named them and everything (although I admit, I can only remember one of the names – Thorton.) All my usual tips and tricks were not making those suckers go away and in an act of desperation, I reached into my mask basket and decided to try the Lemon Mask Sheet from Tony Moly. I woke up the next morning and I KID. YOU. NOT. – those pimples were almost gone. I couldn’t believe it. Was it a fluke? Not sure. But my skin looked bright and it felt great and there was almost no sign of those dudes. I went out and bought 3 more to have on hand in case this happens again (and then we can see if they really do help reduce pimples!)
Just Right by Purina – I announced my partnership with Just Right by Purina last month and still cannot get over how freaking adorable the packaging is. Just Right by Purina allows you to personalize kibble to your doggo’s dietary needs and then sends the kibble in packages with your dog’s FACE ON IT. NO, I AM NOT JOKING! YES, TEDDY SHOULD BE A DOG FOOD BAG MODEL. Also, the food is awesome quality (more on how to pick the best kibble for your dog here) and you can adjust the formula whenever you want. Win. Win. Win.
Foot Poofs from Home Goods – Last Friday we went on an Instagram Stories adventure to find a foot poof for my office that would match that cozy chair that I got for my birthday. I was really nervous that it would be gone but thankfully after a frantic search, I found it. It is almost the EXACT shade of linen at my office chair; they literally look like they were made for each other. I wanted a foot poof because I like putting my feet up but also, I wanted something my photographer, Sadie, could stand on because she’s a tinnnny bit shorter than me. I’m waiting on one final piece to come in the mail for my office and then I’ll be revealing it all on my blog! I can’t wait to show you how I finally arranged my furniture (it’s been an ongoing battle to figure out how to get it to work.)
#yearofme Spring Cleaning Facebook Challenge – At the beginning of the year, I launched a #yearofme Facebook group for any friend or reader of HTC to join. The goal was to support and encourage each other to hit our goals for 2018 and to make it truly the #yearofme. I’ll be honest .- I struggled after the first couple weeks to figure out how to keep it active and rolling. Last week, as I was trying to get some work done (and couldn’t focus because of the dishes in my sink) I decided to launch a month-long spring cleaning challenge in the #yearofme FB group. I know that I always get distracted from doing the things I want to do when my house is dirty, but I also do not have the time or stamina to hammer it all out in a weekend. So, we’re breaking it down into small, daily tasks. And there are PRIZES involved – every time someone posts a picture of their completed task (like their clean microwave) they get entered to win that week’s prize. No strings attached – just clean your house! There is still time to jump in, so if you want to join, we’d love to have you!
Bathpack Brush – THIS BRUSH. THIS BRUSH IS BETTER THEN ANY BRUSH TO EVER EXIST. YES, THE CAPS ARE NECESSARY! And yes, the bathpack brush is 10X better than the Wet Brush. No, I’m not kidding. This brush works on both wet and dry hair and literally brushes away every snarl and knot without causing any pain. I lost mine when we went to Moab in February and tried to go back to my old WetBrush and lasted two days before I ordered two more brushes. I will never be without a Bathpack Brush again. Best part? This brush is only FIVE DOLLARS. YOU CANNOT GO WRONG.
Flemmings Steak House – Dustin treated me to the FANCIEST birthday dinner at Flemming’s Steakhouse in downtown Salt Lake City last weekend and it was worth every. single. penny. May have been the most expensive meal I’ve ever had but oh my gosh, it was beyond my wildest dreams. Little known fact about me – I’m MADLY obsessed with cooking shows (I fall asleep to Chopped on the reg.) and I always want to try “fancy” food. We had the Portabella Mushroom ravioli for our appetizer and I have never had pasta so good in my life. Also, Flemming’s knows how to make you feel special! They gave me a birthday card signed by all the staff upon our arrival and sent us home with freshly made chocolate truffles on our way out.
March has been good to me this year and I’m so grateful. I think it’s truly a sign that I’m on the right track to making 2018 the #yearofme. April is already looking to be like a super busy, crazy month – Dustin and I have started our backyard landscaping project, we celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary next week and my girlfriends are coming out to visit right after that! On top of that, I’ve got some other projects in the works that I can’t wait to shareeee.
Okay, tell me what your favorite things from March have been in the comments below. Annnnnnd go!
