Spring 2017 e.l.f. Cosmetics - first impressions & reviews
Soooo funny story. I filmed this video before we closed on our house/moved into it. Which means this footage is over 4 months old…*insert monkey emoji with hands over face.* I wasn’t going to post this at all, but after sitting down and looking through the footage, I realized that all the information/first impressions are still accurate and hopefully helpful. So, even though a lot of these products were released in the spring (or have been around a little longer) they are still available to purchase now and I hope that this information will help you
e.l.f. cosmetics is one of THE most affordable makeup brands out there. When I first started getting into makeup, I thought that affordable makeup meant crappy makeup, so I stayed away from e.l.f. for the longest time. Don’t worry, though. I have seen the error of my ways and have come to the light. e.l.f. has a lot of amazing products for some great prices. While they aren’t all hits, they do have some high-quality products that I feel every girl should have in their collection.
In case you aren’t in a place to watch a video with audio/you would rather read the cliff notes, I’ve included some of the most important reviews below:
e.l.f. Mad for Matte Palette - One of my favorite eyeshadow palettes to travel with, this little guy packs a punch. They may swatch a bit patchy, but they definitely don’t apply that way. The eyeshadows have a bit of kick up but blend out nicely and apply evenly on the eyes. I love the range of colors and find that I can get a variety of looks from this one little palette. If you are newer to makeup or are looking for a trusty travel buddy for your makeup bag, I highly recommend this palette.
e.l.f. Aqua Beauty Molton Liquid Eyeshadow- While this eyeshadow applied nicely in the video, I don’t find myself reaching for it that much. The formula doesn’t allow it to be a one-and-done lid color because it’s hard to blend out on its own (even with a brush) and you usually need to go in with a couple different eyeshadows to blend out the edges. That being said, it did last all day on my eyes and it does perform as a good base for a foiled shadow.
e.l.f. Aqua Infused Blush & Bronzer- I still can’t decide exactly WHAT this product is. Is it a cream? Is it a really wet powder? The world will never know. What I do know is that the bronzer was really hard to blend out and it had a strange pink undertone to it. #sorrynotsorry but I don’t want a pink bronzer on my face. I would pass on this product if I were you.
e.l.f. Liquid Liner - This is one of my favorite liquid liners from the drugstore and has been for a long time. I love the applicator on this liner because it’s short and easy to control. The liner itself is very black and pigmented and lasts for a long time. I will say that it’s not very waterproof, so opt for your Stila on days when you are planning on watching sappy romcoms and getting your cry on.
e.l.f. lipstick in Orange Dream - Unless you somehow missed it, this lipstick is PIGMENTED! I have found that to be true for the other colors that were sent to me as well. This lipstick is pretty moisturizing as well and while I tend to be shy of bold colors, I really like the formula and price for these lipsticks.
e.l.f. Beauty Sponge - This sponge is definitely more dense and firm than the Real Techniques sponge but still does a good job of blending out my foundation. It did seem to take a little longer to blend out my concealer and I’ll be honest, I reach for my Real Techniques or Eco Tools sponges more. This isn’t a bad sponge, but I’d much rather pay an extra dollar for my tried and true.
e.l.f. Beautifully Bare Finishing Powder - This is one of my favorite e.l.f. products from this haul (and may be in my top 5 e.l.f. products of all time.) It is so finely milled, applies so smoothly, sets the face without looking cakey and really gives the skin a beautiful finish. I use this primarily to set my under eyes, but will also apply it to my whole face if my foundation is tackey. I really love this powder and think it’s a steal for the price!
My goal in sharing these types of posts is to help reduce the overwhelm when trying to pick out makeup and to share different products that might help you find a little extra self-confidence in yourself. I don’t know what it is, but wearing bright orange lipstick really makes me feel like I can take over the world.
