3 Ways to Stay Motivated Around the House
I’ve been thinking about motivation all week and what I need to do to keep myself motivated. I definitely could improve in motivating myself; ever since I graduated college last April, I have found myself in limbo. While waiting for Dustin to finish his degree, I picked up a part time job that was enjoyable but had nothing to do with my degree. I went from going a million miles an hour between work and school and student teaching and classes to twenty. It was really hard to motivate myself because I felt like I had nothing going for me. I especially had a hard time staying motivated around the house and keeping up on the chores!
In this last few months, I have finally started kicking myself back into gear. I realized I needed to start finding things to motivate me and I needed to truly change my perception of my life in order to accomplish things. I remember one day, Dustin coming home after working and classes and I hadn’t moved an inch from the couch. The dishes had remained undone and Rosie was bouncing off the walls because I hadn’t taken her out to play. Although he wasn’t mad, I realized how hard it was for him to come home after I had the entire day off and hadn’t done a thing. Not fair. I realized I needed to find some motivation for myself and stop wasting away on the couch.
I keep myself motivated using the following tricks:
Treat Myself-
If I have dishes and laundry to do for the day, I give myself a reward for completing it. Earlier this week, I decided that if I did all the dishes and got dinner in the crockpot on time, I would sit down and watch a movie and eat some ice cream and a brownie in the middle of the day. Totally gets me going.
When I’m doing a whole day of work from home, I set my timer on my phone for 2-3 hours. I know that as soon as the timer goes off, I can take a break from my work and watch some of my favorite beauty Youtubers and take a mind break! Having these rewards scheduled into my routine is super helpful and keeps me motivated!
Have A Passion Project-
Ever since I started blogging and taking it a little more seriously, my motivation has kicked itself into overdrive. After being in limbo for so long, I finally have something going for me! I want to learn, grow, connect, read and write. In order for me to devote the time necessary to be a better blogger, I need to make sure everything else at home is squared away. I am more motivated than ever to stay on top of everything so I can have more time to blog!

Remember who I’m doing it for-
My husband works so hard to provide for us while finishing his degree. He works over 30 hours a week and is taking 12 credits on campus. Whenever I am struggling to get moving on a chore or an errand, I think about how Dustin and how much it will make him smile if he comes home to a clean house and cooked meal. Knowing that I can make his life a little easier while he works hard to provide for us makes it easy to get off my bum and get those dishes done!
Staying motivated and getting the chores done can be hard at times, but when I reward myself and remind myself who I’m really doing it for, it gets a little bit easier!
