How to Style Edgy Leggings
Items were provided to me by courtesy of Mo & Cho for my styling and review. All opinions are my own!
I know I’ve mentioned before that I used to steer clear from form-fitting pants/leggings because of my left knee. To me, it’s so painfully obvious that my left knee is swollen and misshapen and I didn’t want to wear anything that would bring more attention to it. But, that was a couple years ago and in the last few months, I’ve realized this: I shouldn’t let my scars limit me from wearing what I want. If I refuse to wear leggings because I’m ashamed of how my leg looks, that’s letting my tumor win. I was not given a second chance at life to say no to the things that make me happy.
So, I’ve been wearing a lot of leggings recently, even in the ridiculous summer heat and I’m not even sorry about it. They are comfortable as heck, can be dressed up or down and have a forgiving waistband, so I can eat my heart out at dinner. I normally wear plain black leggings, but the lovely gals behind Mo & Cho sent me these really fun and edgy leggings to style and I’ve been madly obsessed with them.

I’m not one to call myself an “edgy” dresser, but I do love adding some edgy elements to my outfits when I need a pick me up. There’s nothing like a pair of black leather boots and leggings that make me feel like I can take over the world. When I need some motivation to get some stuff done, I stomp around in these edgy leggings and boots because they remind me that I’m a bad-ass survivor who is going to live her life. But, on the flip side, I don’t want to be completely hardcore and scary, so there definitely has to be some balance! Here are some of my tips to rocking edgy leggings and some outfit inspiration!
How to Style Edgy Leggings:
1. Add Florals/Feminine Aspects
I love mixing hard and soft pieces, so one of my favorite ways to style these leggings is to pair them with a top that is the complete opposite of the leggings, like a floral top. I snagged this Express top from ThredUp (get $10 dollars off your order here) for less than 15 bucks and I love how it pairs with these leggings from Mo & Cho. It’s feminine and girly, but the color palette goes with the leggings to give it that edgier, moodier vibe.

2. Balance
Like I just mentioned above, it’s all about balancing it out. Since my leggings are form-fitting and have edgy elements, like leather stripes, I don’t want to wear a tight fitting top or jacket. Instead, I balanced them out with a flowy floral top or a loose white v-neck tee. Both tops add flow to the outfit and soften up the harshness of the leather and boots. It gives both outfits a bit more of a relaxed feel, which I love!
3. Accessorize with Statement Jewelry
I originally thought that wearing bold leggings and heels would be enough boldness for one outfit, but after experimenting, I realized that it totally works because it balances the boldness throughout my outfit! I wore my this statement necklace that I got for 5 dollars at Walmart (because it’s okay to get a deal!) I thought that the colors from the necklace coordinated well and added some fun accent colors!
4. Add a Pop of Color
Wearing black leggings and a loose tee is the perfect excuse to add a fun pop of color. I choose to accessorize with my bright aquamarine fringe bag (another bargain steal from Ross at 12 dollars!) I love this bag because it’s the perfect pop of color, fringe is super trendy right now and it’s a fun statement piece that gives a flirtiness to the overall look!

Here’s the thing I’ve learned: life is too short to not wear leggings. If you want to wear them, put them on. Don’t let your past, your scars or what other people may or may not think dictate your life because it’s YOUR life. I’m going to live my life as vibrantly as possible, wearing edgy leggings when I want because hey, I’ve got two legs and that’s something to celebrate. So, I challenge you to do the same this month!
