Just a little chop chop and color change for my 31 Just a little chop chop and color change for my 31st year. 💇‍♀️

Loosing my hair at age 16 gave me a pretty big identity crisis. Not only did cancer make me sick, but it made me feel ugly, too. Without my hair, I had to really dig deep and find things about myself that still made me feel beautiful. Without my hair, I learned that I had so much more to offer the world than just my looks. It was a hard and powerful lesson to learn and one I have to remind myself of frequently when I feel insecure about my looks.

I made a decision that I would never take my hair for granted once it grew back and that I would have FUN with it and use it to express myself! I’ve done fire engine red, black and pink, short bobs, long extensions and everything in between. It’s my way of actively surviving - every dang day. Bad anxiety day? Do my hair. Bad ptsd? Do my hair. Bad cancer scare? Change my hair.

So it felt fitting to change it up for year 31 - fun lob with extensions for thickness and taking my color back to my natural shade of brunette. Suck on that, osteosarcoma. 💪🏻

Do you change your hair up frequently? What’s a hairstyle or color you’ve wanted to try but have been afraid to?

Happy birthday to this fiercely loyal, kind, and p Happy birthday to this fiercely loyal, kind, and passionate best friend of mine: @ericaligenza.

E is deeply rooted in her faith, her family, and her work. She inspires me to level up everything I do and challenges me in all the best ways. E is the kind of friend who feeds my soul (instead of eating it.) Finding true friends as an adult can be challenging - but I’m grateful to have found ones I can count on to show up at my doorstep (literally) after some of the hardest months of my life.

How did I luck out to have such incredible friends How did I luck out to have such incredible friends?! They planned a surprise visit all the way to Utah after knowing how hard the last few months have been for me. They helped me with a work project. They bought matching sweatshirts with me. They willingly and excitedly asked if they could go for a ride in @dinah.xj - like WUT?! I can’t even believe how I ended up with such amazing girlfriends (and a husband who helped coordinate everything) and I’m endlessly grateful for the love and memories and laughs we’ve shared this weekend.

Working for a women-owned, women-run small busines Working for a women-owned, women-run small business that’s passionate about what they do has given me a whole new definition and outlook on what it means to be a woman.

Keeping this small business afloat during the last year has shown me how absolutely incredible women are. I am surrounded by resilient, tenacious, passionate, determined, resourceful, hard working, and dedicated women who have adapted, pivoted, and kept showing up for this business, all while balancing their families, health issues, and the general anxiety that comes with a pandemic. We have lifted each other up, cheered each other on, held space for each other during hard times, and laughed together in between. It’s been a wild ride and I am inspired by this group of gals ever dang day!

I want so badly to believe good things can happen I want so badly to believe good things can happen to me - but it’s hard when I have a history of trauma and epically bad things in my past (looking at you, pediatric cancer and infertility.) This current health crisis has really shaken me up - I’ve been afraid to even TRY to work towards good things in my life because I’m afraid that it will tempt fate to come after me.

So I’ve done nothing, except sit in my bed, numb myself with TV, panic myself with Google searches, and attempt to get my responsibilities for work done in between.
It’s no way to live.

And I want to believe I’m worthy of good things happening to me.

So I’m taking baby steps to help me try to keep a more abundant mindset! Here are a few things I’ve done:

1. I had my nails painted green - which is the color that represents health and resilience.
2. I made an appointment to finally put my extensions back in (because I deserve to have pretty hair, regardless of my health.)
3. I don’t sit in silence - I either have an audio book playing, uplifting music, a podcast, a show, or I call someone. I fill my surroundings with things to distract me, so that I can’t let my mind spiral.

Baby steps to changing a mindset that’s caused me to truly be paralyzed with inaction and fear for the last two months. It’s not a cure all - but, it’s helping.

I’d love to know if you have any little tricks you use to help you stay positive? I need all the help I can get ❤️

Hey there, I’m Chelsie And it’s been a hot se Hey there, I’m Chelsie

And it’s been a hot second since I intentionally showed my face here and shared what the heck I try to do in the space. So hi. Here’s a little bit about me and HTC:

I’m a 14 year pediatric cancer survivor and now a 3 year infertility warrior. I’m not going to lie - it’s been a hard hand to be dealt. For years, I was convinced my body was broken and couldn’t be trusted. I didn’t give a crap about caring for it, dressing it, or loving it. That translated into zero self-confidence on every level in my life. I didn’t feel good about how I looked, how I physically felt, or what I had to offer the world. I just kind of skated by, showing up to a dead end job and then coming home and watching endless amounts of tv.

And then, one day, after getting sucked down the beauty YouTube rabbit hole, I ordered an eyeshadow palette and started learning how to put on makeup. When I was done and looked at myself in the mirror - I couldn’t see the cancer anymore. I just saw me, and the body that worked so hard to give me a second chance life. I didn’t want to waste another minute not living it fully.

The time I spent playing with makeup and putting together outfits healed my relationship with my body. Then, it transformed into trust. I trusted that it wouldn’t fall apart if I tried to get stronger. I trusted that it would show up for me if I went on an adventure. And then, I started trusting myself - that I could have dreams for my life and that I could achieve them. I proved to myself that I could live a vibrant life, despite my scars, despite my past, and despite what limitations others put on me.

My goal is to show up here and help you find and express your inner vibrance, and give you the confidence to live as vibrantly as possible. Sometimes, that journey starts with a little mascara or a new outfit. Other times, it means implementing strategies to help you tune out your inner critic and pursue whatever lights your soul on fire with confidence.

Wherever you are in your journey to living a vibrant life, I’m here, cheering you on.

Now, let me know - what do you want to see from HTC this year? Where can I help you?
Even though I really thought we would have had a b Even though I really thought we would have had a baby here by the time this holiday arrived, I’m grateful for the things I do have: a home, a job, an amazing husband, family, friends, food on the table, doggos, and my health (mostly.) I honestly couldn’t ask for more after this crazy year - and while I hope we have a baby here by Christmas 2021, I know that I’ll be okay if we have to wait longer. That is my Christmas miracle - hope and patience and peace.
Happy Christmas 🎄All my love to you.

What Valentine’s Day Means to Me

I look forward to every Valentine's Day because of the special significance it holds for me. As Valentine's Day approaches, I can't help but think about my most vivid Valentine's Day memory, nine years ago. My room had been heart-attacked by my church youth group and there were presents of candy and stuffed animals all over the bed and dresser. It was the sweetest gesture from a supportive group of friends who were trying to cheer me up. I was 15 years old and I was coming home after my first hospital stay after undergoing my first chemotherapy treatment. I always get emotional around this time of year. At the end of January of 2006, my parents drove me . . .

February Goals

I have been looking forward to February for a while, not only because of the Superbowl (Yeah Patriots!) but because it's the shortest month for a long while! I feel like it's way easier for me to set harder goals for myself during February because it's shorter and I can see the end sooner. I guess that could be considered cheating or copping out, but I got to start somewhere, right? Here are a few things I want to accomplish in February! I figure by writing them down on my public blog, I will be able to hold myself more accountable for achieving them! No Soda-I've been meaning to go on a "no soda" fast for a long time, but I just love Barq's Rootbeer so so . . .

3 Ways to Stay Motivated Around the House

I've been thinking about motivation all week and what I need to do to keep myself motivated. I definitely could improve in motivating myself; ever since I graduated college last April, I have found myself in limbo. While waiting for Dustin to finish his degree, I picked up a part time job that was enjoyable but had nothing to do with my degree. I went from going a million miles an hour between work and school and student teaching and classes to twenty. It was really hard to motivate myself because I felt like I had nothing going for me. I especially had a hard time staying motivated around the house and keeping up on the chores! In this last few . . .

Why I am cheering for the Patriots

Okay, I know I'm going to get a lot of flack here for even writing about this, but I'm not doing it to set up tension or start serious controversy. With the whole "deflategate" and "spygate" issues spanning the media, the Patriots have become the team to hate and to route against. I can almost see why because the media has made it so easy to hate them. They don't have a perfect track record and they have made some mistakes in the past, so it's easy to pin more things on them. But, so have the Seahawks (remember the Adderall issue, anyone?).   I rooted for the Seahawks last year because I couldn't stand the thought of the Broncos/Manning winning. I . . .

5 Tips to be Financially Prepared for the New Year

Coming from someone who was up to her eyeballs in debt this time last year, I don't feel like I'm really in a place to give advice on money. At the same time, I have learned so much from getting out of credit card debt and finding ways to make sure I never put my little family in that position again. So, here are five things that I'm doing this month to be financially ahead and prepared for the new year and recommend to anyone looking for some extra tips and tricks! 1. Get ahead with the extra pay period. For those of us getting paid bi-weekly, December magically had three pay periods, which is one extra then we are used to getting in a month. Instead of looking . . .

We’re Debt Free!

I have been contemplating whether or not to write about this because it's personal and slightly embarrassing. D and I have been working on this goal since before we got married and it's been a long time coming. We learned a lot about money, finances and sacrifices while going through this process and maybe some of the tips we picked up might help someone else someday down the line. I have never been good with money. For almost my whole college career, I lived pay check to pay check. I never saved money and I used my credit cards a LOT and just paid the minimum every month and left a hefty balance on them (yes, multiple). When I got my knee replaced a few years . . .

On blogging, writing and life with Rosie.

I started blogging in my Freshman year of college. It was a little corner of the internet that belonged to me and transformed as I grew up. It started out as a place for lists, turned into a place for me to vent and eventually a place for me to write. Reading through that blog is like re-living different versions of myself-the tough as nails girl with pink and black hair, the proud cancer survivor with a knee replacement, the girl who fell in love with her best friend and waited for him over two years, the girl who was brave enough to live in China. In some ways, the posts on that blog were juvenile and immature. In other ways, some of my best writing is hidden on . . .
